Workshop Overview

The Inspire Citizens Empathy to Impact approach follows the Care- Aware- Able- Impact framework. This is a service-learning cycle, an enhanced inquiry cycle, project-based learning cycle, and a method of enhancing any curriculum approach.

Participants will develop student empathy by engaging with the Sustainable Development Goals, Social Justice Standards, Well-being indicators, and more.

Participants will look for opportunities to enhance action through Inspire Citizens’ Action menu and community assets mapping

Participants will explore tools for authentic investigation to allow students to become more deeply aware of the issues that they care about, and all will be integrated into curricular outcomes to enhance existing curriculum for global citizenship, service, and action for sustainability.

Participants will leave the session with a completed UDB unit plan ready to implement in the classroom.

Participants will be able to independently design units and learning experiences focused on sustainability, DEI, Social Justice, Community Engagement and developing global citizens.

Target Audience
→ A classroom educator who seeks ways to bring greater compassion, empathy, and real world connection to global issues into the classroom.
→ A school counselor who is working to spark mentoring experiences that center on compassion, connection, understanding, and action within ourselves and in our relationship with others and the planet.
→ A future-focused administrator who is exploring proof-of-concept in building a culture of engaged global citizenship as a through-line for any and all school-wide initiatives or professional learning communities.
Methodology
Inspire Citizens’ workshops are interactive, hands-on and we mentor model the use of many student-facing strategies and tools, while also giving educators time to apply the pedagogy to one of their own unit plans and develop learning activities for their own teaching and learning context.
We provide personalized feedback, peer feedback and collaborative opportunities for sharing. We believe in using the professional development time to complete the work necessary and prepare educators for implementation upon leaving the session.
